Cape Verdean schools conducts classes in Portuguese language. Crioulo is also used but not as language of instruction. This is mainly because, before 1975 Cape Verde was Portuguese colony. Post independence the quality of education in Cape Verde has declined. The main reasons in decline of level of education in Cape Verde are lack of adequate learning spaces, lack of materials, and teachers with little or no training, among other possible factors. The Netherlands is offering helping hand to Cape Verde to strengthen pre school education.
